Placement is based on skill, maturity, commitment, and developmental needs , not age alone.

The Pathway

From Foundation to Professional

The age ranges above serve as general guidelines. Players may be moved up or down a level when appropriate to ensure they train in the environment that best supports their long-term development.

Ages 3+

CITA Foundation

Introduction to tennis and movement

The Foundation program is designed for young players beginning their tennis journey. At this stage, the focus is on developing coordination, basic motor skills, and familiarity with the racket and ball in a fun and engaging environment.

Players will learn:

  • Basic grips and stroke introduction
  • Coordination and movement through games
  • Listening, communication, and group interaction
  • Respect for coaches and teammates

The goal is to build confidence, enjoyment, and strong first habits.

Ages 9+

CITA Pre-Competition

Introduction to competition and match play

The Pre-Competition program is designed for players transitioning into a more competitive environment. At this stage, athletes begin applying their technical foundation into real match situations while maintaining a strong focus on development and enjoyment.

Players will develop:

  • More advanced stroke variations (slice, different serves, control)
  • Introduction to match play and scoring
  • Court positioning and basic tactics
  • Footwork and light physical conditioning

Players are encouraged to begin participating in tournaments to gain experience and build confidence in competitive settings.

Ages 12+

CITA Competition

Competitive development and performance

The Competition program is designed for players who are actively competing or preparing to compete regularly. At this level, training becomes more structured and demanding, with a strong emphasis on performance, discipline, and consistency.

Players will focus on:

  • Refining all technical aspects of their game
  • Developing tactical awareness and match strategy
  • Increasing physical conditioning and movement efficiency
  • Building mental resilience and competitive mindset

Players are expected to:

  • Compete in tournaments regularly
  • Set goals and track progress
  • Begin understanding the responsibilities of being a student-athlete

The goal is to develop complete competitors capable of performing consistently under pressure.

Ages 15+

CITA High Performance

Advanced training and pathway to college/pro tennis

The High Performance program is designed for serious athletes committed to maximizing their potential in tennis. This stage represents the final phase of development before transitioning into collegiate or professional pathways. Training is intensive and focused.

Training is intensive and focused on:

  • Advanced technical refinement
  • High-level tactical execution
  • Physical conditioning and injury prevention
  • Mental performance and match preparation

Players will receive guidance in:

  • College recruitment and scholarship opportunities
  • Tournament planning and travel
  • Time management and academic balance

For athletes with the appropriate level and commitment, CITA will provide support and guidance toward pursuing professional opportunities.

The goal is to prepare athletes for the next level, both on and off the court.

Uniforms & Equipment

CITA Uniform & Proper Attire Policy

Training Attire

Players must attend all sessions in appropriate athletic/tennis attire, including:

  • Athletic shirt
  • Shorts or skirt suitable for tennis
  • Proper tennis shoes (no running shoes or casual footwear)

CITA Uniform (When Applicable)

  • Players may be required to wear official CITA training apparel during sessions, events, or competitions when instructed.
  • Uniform guidelines will be communicated as the program develops.

Equipment Requirements

Players must bring:

  • Tennis racquet
  • Water bottle
  • Appropriate gear for training conditions (hat, towel, etc.)

Professional Standard

  • Proper attire reflects discipline, respect, and commitment to the training environment.
  • Players not dressed appropriately may be asked to sit out of the session.
